Elixir, November 2011

Back to newsletter archive

We can hardly believe that the year is almost over. It feels like just yesterday that we were refreshed and ready for the new year. Now, it’s almost time again for that well-deserved break, summer holidays, and quality time with friends and family.

With this being the last edition of Elixir for the year, we’ve got quite a bit of ground to cover. Option Renewal is once again in full swing – you’ll be required to inform us of your choice of product for 2012 by the end of November, so please make sure you read our for a summary of the changes.

Apart from changes to our products, we can also confirm that this year’s process is going to be a lot quicker, and less cumbersome, as our developers have been hard at work to implement an electronic Option Renewal process.

In addition to our regular and administrative reminders, we’re pleased to introduce a new permanent fixture to the newsletter: a column written by our Board of Trustees. The column will feature in all editions to follow. is all about the annual report published by the Council for Medical Schemes (CMS).

There’s been a lot of news coverage of the proposed National Health Insurance (NHI) system. Unfortunately, most people rely on this coverage alone and often develop skewed perceptions as a result. Well, we’ve put together an article about the recently published . I hope that it clears up some of the misconceptions.

As I said earlier, summer is here. As exciting as it all is, please be careful when you’re outdoors and in the sun over the festive season. We do give you a little advice about , but the bottom line is to smear yourselves (and your children, especially!) with sunscreen wherever you go. One bad burn can cause serious damage.

To end on a happy note, we were only too pleased to finally put some of our old computer equipment to good use. For months, we’ve not known where to store our used monitors, fax machines and photocopiers, which is why we to a good cause.

Enjoy this edition of Elixir. And, as usual, we’d love to hear from you – please email .

Here’s to your health!

Warm regards,
Charlene Schoeman
General Manager
